ANSEK has long believed that building capacity and investing in personal development are essential for a strong and effective local government sector. One of its firm convictions is that the best training comes from those who know the realities of the job — people with first-hand experience working within local councils.
With this in mind, ANSEK President Paul Gatt has taken the initiative to create a series of short video explainers covering practical aspects of legislation and the day-to-day running of local councils. These videos are designed to be accessible, relevant, and immediately useful to Executive Secretaries.
The response has been overwhelmingly positive. Although the videos were produced with Executive Secretaries in mind, several local politicians have also shown interest and expressed appreciation for the clarity and usefulness of the content. Their feedback has encouraged ANSEK to widen the scope of the initiative.
Plans are now underway to produce a parallel series specifically aimed at mayors and councillors. These upcoming videos will address issues and responsibilities that are particularly relevant to elected officials, helping them to better understand procedures, legal obligations, and good governance practices.
This initiative reflects ANSEK’s belief that training should be practical, flexible, and led by those with the right expertise. By sharing knowledge in a modern and engaging format, ANSEK is helping to strengthen leadership, improve performance, and promote a culture of continuous learning within local councils.
The video series not only supports professional growth — it also reinforces ANSEK’s role as a proactive and forward-looking organisation committed to elevating standards across the sector.
